Historical Society Open Houses Scheduled

The Twitchell-Rowland Homestead Museum will offer a series of open houses from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, December 3, 10, 17, and  January 7, 2018, at 60 Towner Lane, Oxford.

The Oxford Garden Club will decorate the house for the season and those who visit will see a display of antique Christmas postcards loaned by Wally Bates and Jane Hulbert.

Mr. Bates' collection was found in the attic above an old hotel in Redding. Mrs. Hulbert's cards were sent to her father-in-law, George  H. Hulbert, when he was a child.

The cards feature animals in addition to more traditional angels and Santas. Some are  white embossed on white; others are delicately colored with gold accents. All date from around 1910.

The Oxford Historical Society's newest book "Historic Buildings of Oxford Past and Present" will be on sale by mid-December for $25.

Jams, other books previously published by the group, T-shirts and pewter ornaments can also be purchased.

Docent led tours will be provided by society members. Refreshments will be offered each afternoon.
