OXFORD -- The Oxford Historical Society has announced the availability of inscribed commemorative brick paving stones. The bricks will be laid at the site of the Twitchell-Rowland Homestead during the summer of 2008 as part of the work schedule which will also connect the house to electricity, water and heat.

Bricks will be available for two prices. The $60 bricks will be laid near the entrance of the Homestead, and the $40 bricks will be laid along the garden walkways on the homestead property. Inscriptions may take many forms, including names of family members, the name of a business, or a saying. The bricks can also be purchased as memorials. Text can be up to three lines of 20 characters each.

The laser-generated inscription is printed in permanent black lettering.  Gift certificates are available and all donations are tax-deductible.

The bricks are a good value because they will last at least a century. The Society encourages Oxford's businesses to purchase bricks -- For the next 100 years, they will have free advertising at the Homestead.

The Historical Society has moved the house to 60 Towner Lane, on land donated by Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rowland. The site where the house formerly stood is being developed as an adult gated community, Glendale of Oxford, LLC. The developer, Manny Montinho donated the house to the Society.

The Homestead was named as one of "The Most Important Threatened Historic Places in Connecticut" by the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation (CTHP). It was named to the Connecticut Register of Historic Places in the spring of 2006.

Proceeds from the bricks will go towards the foundation that must be in place under the house before winter.
