March is Women's History Month. This month we will feature 100 photos of Oxford's women through history. Today's first photo shows Miss Emma Lounsbury, daughter of Dr. John Lounsbury, who lived in the Dr. Dutton house on Dutton Road. After the doctor’s death, she sold the house to the Nelson Cable family, but continued to live in the house with the new purchasers. She was born in Oxford in 1845 and died in 1925. The second photo, Esther J. Treat,(shown as a young lady), was born in 1871, the daughter of Sheldon and Mary Treat. She is related to the Chestnut Tree Hill Treat family, which is only distantly related to the Treat family that settled in Quaker Farms. The third photograph is from the old family photo album of John Downs. It shows two women presumably from the Riverside neighborhood. They are dressed in styles popular about 1900. Like so many old family photographs, the women are unidentified. It serves as a reminder that we should identify people and places in our family photos. Coming at the end of this month, Oxford's MOST HISTORIC WOMAN. Can you guess who that might be? If you enjoy these videos, please "LIKE" the Oxford Historical Society @oxfordhistorical
