March is Women's History Month. This month we will feature 100 photos of Oxford's women through history. From earliest times to the present, the ties made through church, family and friends strengthen community life. Today's first photo shows a pair of women in Victorian-style clothing enjoying a cup of tea together, and are reminded of a recent sharing of a cup of coffee at Dunkin' Donuts with our friends. The scenery has changed but the friendships endure. The second photo shows Maria Theresa Stoddard, the daughter of Dr. Abiram Stoddard, who represented Oxford in the General Assembly in 1816. She is noteworthy in her own right because of her work during the Civil War. She went to Maryland during the War of the Rebellion to aid in caring for the sick and wounded soldiers. She contributed generously of her own funds to provide for the comfort of the wounded soldiers. (Image from History of Seymour, Wm. C. Sharpe, 1879.) Today's final photo shows Howard Belinsky's parents, Sam and Mary Belinsky, in their barn with one of their cows. Like her mother-in-law, Nellie was a hard worker, canning, making cheese and butter, selling fruit at the produce stand, as well as raising her family. Nancy Farnum says, "I was lucky enough to know Mary, and I absolutely loved her." Coming at the end of this month, Oxford's MOST HISTORIC WOMAN. Can you guess who that might be?
