March is Women's History Month. This month we will feature 100 photos of Oxford's women through history. Today's photos are from a family album belonging to Phyllis Budris. Close friendships were formed among the "girls" who worked in the small shops in Oxford. The first photo shows those who worked at Albert Pope's pin factory enjoying a break outside the shop. Note the cat being held by the young woman in front. The second photo of workers at Albert Pope's pin factory enjoyed friendships among themselves which helped to relieve the monotony of hand assembly. The third photo shows seven members of what was known as the "Girls Friendly Club." Dressed in their best outfits and hats, they enjoyed a picnic. One of their favorite spots for picnics was at Crofut's Pond.
