March is Women's History Month. This month we will feature 100 photos of Oxford's women through history. The first photo features Rachel Tilquist feeds her chickens at the old Tilquist homestead at the corner of Quaker Farms and Tilquist Roads. Many Oxford housewives kept a small flock of chickens to provide meat and eggs for the family. The birds were fed household scraps and allowed to free-range feed during warm weather. (Photo courtesy of Evelyn Montriski McCarthy.) The second photo featues Henrietta Chandler, known to her family as Nettie, shown here with her cow and milk pail at her Quaker Farms home. (Chatfield Family Photo Collection.) The final photograph of a woman and car is from the the family photograph collection of the late Howard Belinsky. Unfortunately, the woman is unidentified. Anybody who can identify her is requested to email photos@oxford-historical-society.org so that we can properly credit her in our photo collection.
